“To recoil before an enemy, or to keep silence when from all sides such clamors are raised against truth, is the part of a man either devoid of character or who entertains doubts as to the truth of what he professes to believe. In both cases such mode of behaving is base and is insulting to God, and both are incompatible with the salvation of mankind. This kind of conduct is profitable only to the enemies of the faith, for nothing emboldens the wicked so greatly as the lack of courage on the part of the good.”

Sapientiae Christianae, January 10, 1890
His Holiness Pope Leo XIII
Why were theologians with heretical teachings, and immoral lifestyles, not only allowed to continue to work in the
Church in the second half of the twentieth century, but were steadily given even greater Catholic pulpits from
which to spread their evolving (or devolving) un-Catholic teachings?
Why did the Virgin Mary appear at La Sallette, France in 1846, at Fatima, Portugal in 1917, at Garabandal,
Spain in 1961, and at Akita, Japan in 1973 and in each visitation warn of the threat of global chastisement due, in
part, to the evil work of unfaithful priests and bishops whom, she said, are leading the laity to hell?
And, finally, why are most Catholics still unaware of, or unconcerned about, these spreading cancers in the
Church while they, themselves, become increasingly indistinguishable from their admittedly secular friends and
unchristian neighbors?
The answers to these, and related theological questions, are considered in the literary journey through the
treacherous jungle of recent Christian history under the ominous prophetic title of Cleansing Fire.
The Novel: Cleansing Fire – Welcome to the New Springtime
Cleansing Fire is a novel of history and theology written by Peter B. Kelly, JD. The book is intended to serve as a
study guide to assist readers interested in exploring the theological origins of the global disorder so evident in this
first decade of the twenty-first century. As it is an account of how some believers manage to remain faithful to
God and how God responds to that devotion, it is a love story. It is also a story of historic betrayal, and of a hatred
of God which still threatens us all. This novel is a beacon from a tower of stone, a beam of light searching for
drifting castaways. It stands against the cultural wind and scans the storm tossed waves of our world where we all
barely float in the treacherous hurricane of Godlessness submerging our mortal - and eternal - existence.
Two Critical Questions Answered by the Novel Cleansing Fire:
A time of dangerous change:
The old world order is rapidly collapsing. Our economic, governmental, cultural and religious systems are
changing for the worse before our eyes. In theology, the primary methodology of this change is called
“Modernism” – a philosophy which Pope Saint Pius X called “the synthesis of all heresies”. Modernism includes the
false concept that important religious beliefs or dogmas not only can change over time, but must change – and
be updated - to suit the current culture. But as that Pope warned, this belief will lead to the eventual disregard of
all religious beliefs, Catholic and non-catholic alike, that will each eventually be deemed passe’.
The Fourth Memoir of Sister Lucia of Fatima revealed that the famous “Third Secret of Fatima”, which was to be
released in 1960 just before Vatican II, begins with the words “In Portugal the dogma of the Faith will always
be preserved etc.” In his book, Mr. Kelly suggests that this Third Secret logically continues with a pointed
prophesy that Catholic dogma will not be preserved by the Modernists elsewhere on earth beyond Portugal.
Perhaps the Evangelist Saint Luke was envisioning such widespread effects of Modernism when he wrote: “Yet
when the Son of Man comes, will he find, do you think, faith on the earth.” (Lk 18:8)
The victory of the Modernist:
In a review of Catholic theology today, the question then is no longer “has this Modernism taken over the Catholic
Church as pre-1960 Popes warned it could?” Such a take-over was in fact accomplished even before Pope Paul
VI officially ended, back in 1967 (two years after the close of the Second Vatican Council), the administration of
Pope Saint Pius X’s “Oath Against Modernism”. To confirm this take-over one need only compare the Catholic
Church of Pope Saint Pius X in 1909 with the “Catholic” Church of Pope Benedict XVI in 2009. The qualitative and
quantitative differences in faith and practice are undeniable. As a Cardinal, Joseph Ratzinger, now Benedict XVI ,
admitted as much.
Modernism at work: the end of conversions:
One example of this Modernist “metanoia” concerns conversions to Catholicism. Clerical enthusiasm for
conversions to Catholicism is a useful measure of the Modernist-inspired change of beliefs within the Catholic
Church. Jesus Christ challenged Jews in the synagogue in Capharnaum (Jn 6:60) to find eternal life by setting
aside the ancient prohibitions of their Law and start believing instead in His new way to enter into eternal life (Jn 6:
47-70). Yet traditional Catholics watched in confusion as Pope John Paul II, and his successor, became the first
Popes in history to visit synagogues, while never mentioning to anyone there, as Jesus had, that “except you eat
of the Son of man and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you.” (Jn 6:54)
Although the chief Rabbi in Rome joyfully converted to “Traditional” Catholicism during the papacy of Pope Pius
XII, such a personal commitment would not have been so welcomed or encouraged by Popes John Paul II or
Benedict XVI. That is because their post-Vatican II, easy embrace of non-Catholic beliefs and customs (see John
Paul’s kissing of the Koran, his visit to the Jewish wall in Jerusalem, and his joint services with the layman known
as the Archbishop of Canterbury) arises out of their own evident support for the now widespread ecumenism of
Modernism – a politically-correct shedding of Traditional Catholic soteriology - that would have been anathema to
pre-conciliar Pontiffs.
The Two Important Questions:
This means that the two critical questions remaining for Catholics to consider now, are simply, these:
(1) Is Modernism, which has now deformed our Catholic Church, reduced conversions to Catholicism,
and forced so many changes in how we pray and what we believe, really the deadly “synthesis of all
heresies” Pope Saint Pius X said it was? and
(2) Will that same Modernist philosophy lead not just to the end of the Catholic religion, but to the
eventual end of all religion on earth, as Pope Saint Pius X predicted it could?
Peter B. Kelly’s book Cleansing Fire offers these answers:
In his historical novel Cleansing Fire – Welcome to the New Springtime, author Peter B. Kelly, JD answers these
questions in this way: Yes. Modernism is indeed the “Synthesis of all heresies”. The many current statistics
of leading Catholic Indicators provide conclusive proof that, in every category of Church life, the Catholic Church
bleeds from the scourging of this Modernist take-over. It is obvious that the Catholic Church is remarkably less
healthy today than it was in the centuries before Vatican II.
But will Modernism ultimately put an end to all religious beliefs as the saintly Pontiff warned? Mr. Kelly suggests
in his book that it will not. That is because, in his view, Almighty God will halt its advance long before
Modernism gives the devil - Satan, and his fallen angels, their complete victory over the Church Christ founded.
Before Modernism brings the end of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, Cleansing Fire describes how
Modernism may be suddenly crushed by God’s mighty Hand. He also proposes how the world will be cleansed
through the arrival of God’s own “fire from Heaven” so well known in the 19th and 20th century approved and
endorsed accounts of the Apparitions of the Virgin Mary and other Catholic prophesies of the end times.
The Gates of Hell shall not ultimately prevail against the Catholic Church (Mt.16:18) and, in the end, the
Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary, as the ever faithful servant of her Divine Son, will triumph. It will
triumph not through another downpour and flood of cool water, but rather through God’s use of a downpour and
flood of “Cleansing Fire”. Across the 48 Chapters of the book Cleansing Fire, the reader will see gradually laid out
before him or her in Holy Scripture, Church documents, accounts of Marian apparitions, and other saintly
prophesies, the developing tsunami of God’s justice which will, in time, envelop us in a tidal wave of chastising
fire. Read this book for the serious warning it brings. Consult it as a reference book for the truth and
documentation it provides. Share it as a sign of your love for others at risk, and reread it so as to meditate on the
future of those who do not live for Him.
What has happened to the Catholic Church in the second half of the
twentieth century?
Why, after the trumpeted triumph of the Second Vatican Council, did
the Church immediately show signs of an inner illness that had
dramatically reversed the statistically impressive trends of growth and
success the Church witnessed up until 1965?
Why, when 75% of Catholics attended the time-honored Latin liturgy
every Sunday before the Council, was permission given to a Modernist,
crypto-Freemason to fix a Mass that was not broken and contort it into a
quasi-Protestant, defective worship service which eventually only 25% of
Catholics would continue to attend?
Why, when the Catholic Church had repeatedly, and infallibly,
proclaimed itself to be “The Church” Christ established - outside of which
“there is no salvation”, would post-conciliar voices in high ranking
positions of Church leadership claim that conversion to that Church since
Vatican II was no longer required for the good of the non-Catholic soul -
thereby undercutting the Church’s own reason for existence?
